Maria Aparo is a queer feminist, multidisciplinary artist, producer, former sex worker, activist, and mother. Renowned for her groundbreaking projects that defy expectations, Maria fearlessly blurs the line between art and life while challenging societal norms.
One of her awe-inspiring feats was the construction of a black box theater in the heart of the desert, where the iconic Living Theater's "No Place To Hide" took the stage at Burning Man. Her performances have graced NYC stages, mesmerized audiences at film festivals, captivated viewers on Amazon, and collaboratively enriched the works of visual artists.
Not one to shy away from innovation, Maria's journey also led her to become a world-renowned "fetish queen" and YouTube sensation, revolutionizing the online sex work industry and gaining millions of devoted fans. Her groundbreaking work even found its way into the pages of Hustler Magazine, solidifying her status as a trailblazer in multiple realms.
With over a decade of experience in producing and theater management, Maria brings a wealth of expertise to every creative project. Her specialty lies in the independent and nonprofit sectors, where she has masterfully developed and produced new works, often conjuring resources seemingly "out of thin air." Notably, she co-founded Perf Productions, an all-women's production company, and collaborated as an associate producer with the legendary Living Theater. Her professional journey also includes a Management Director position at Theater Masters, a prominent nonprofit based in NYC, CO, and FL, which honed her skills in development and programming.
She is passionate about nurturing new works that challenge conventions, igniting creativity, and empowering artists to push boundaries in every medium. Fearless, innovative, and relentlessly passionate, Maria Aparo continues to redefine artistic boundaries and inspire those around her, leaving an indelible mark on the world of art, activism, and social change.
Maria currently holds a position as Co-Creative Director of Bechdel Project.
